"Dark Like A Restaurant" grew out of a number of experimental bands in the Dallas, Texas area working around 1979-80. After the Sex Pistols show at the Bronco Bowl (1978), a scene grew up in Dallas that was part punk, part proto-new wave.
"Dark Like a Restaurant" became pioneers in the scene because of its obsession with the hypnotic rhythms of the then-new Roland TR808 drum machine. The combination of a minimal synth base and a floating guitar sound served as the band's calling card.
‘Dark Like A Restaurant’ kwam voort uit een aantal experimentele bands in regio Dallas, Texas werkten rond 1979-80. Na de Sex Pistols-show in de Bronco Bowl (1978), groeide een scène op in Dallas die deels punk was, deels proto-new wave.
‘Dark Like a Restaurant’ werden pioniers in de scene vanwege de obsessie met de hypnotiserende ritmes van de toen nieuwe Roland TR808-drummachine. De combinatie van een minimale synth-basis en een zwevend gitaargeluid diende als het visitekaartje van de band.
