Nao Katafuchi grew up in the Tokyo suburbs in the 1980s.
In 1991 he moved to the Lower East Side in New York City. After years of experimenting, Nao found a niche of musical kindred spirits at the legendary parties of Wierd Records, where he made his debut as Nao Katafuchi. He moved to Germany at the end of 2015. There he quickly made a name for himself and finally established himself in the dark wave scene that has been deeply rooted in the industrial Ruhr region for more than 30 years. His second album "Stalhgrau" is strongly influenced by his new environment. Along with the raw and gritty sound of vintage analog synthesizers, the music itself has become even more abrasive with its darker, deeper voice and whisper.

In 1991 verhuisde hij naar de Lower East Side in New York City. Na jarenlang te hebben geëxperimenteerd vond Nao een niche van muzikale geestverwanten op de legendarische feesten van Wierd Records, waar hij zijn debuut maakte als Nao Katafuchi. Eind 2015 verhuisde hij naar Duitsland. Daar heeft hij al snel naam gemaakt en zich definitief gevestigd in de darkwave-scene die al meer dan 30 jaar diep geworteld is in het gebied van het industriële Ruhrgebied. Zijn tweede album ‘Stalhgrau’ is sterk beïnvloed door zijn nieuwe omgeving. Samen met het rauwe en gruizige geluid van vintage analoge synthesizers, is de muziek zelf nog schurender geworden met zijn donkerdere, diepere stem en gefluister.
